Why you should invest in SEO

Search engine optimization (SEO) is “the practice of increasing the quantity and quality of traffic to your website through organic search engine results,” according to Moz. If you’re not already investing in SEO, here are three reasons why you should:

Search Engine Visibility
Before we dive deep into why you should invest in SEO, let’s do a quick exercise. Go to Google and type in a keyword or phrase that relates to your business. Now, locate your company on the search engine results page. Are you in the top spot, second page, or are you still clicking through the results? If you chose the latter answer, you need to invest in SEO.

Customers search a keyword that relates to your business and they expect to see you on the first page. When customers can’t find you, they’ll choose another business that is visible to them on the search engine.

Why have a website if no one can find you? Start dedicating time to an SEO strategy, and you’ll see your rankings for targeted keywords begin to climb the results page. Once this happens, you become visible and recognizable to people searching for keywords that relate to your business.

Website Traffic
With high rankings, comes visibility. And with visibility, comes an increase in website traffic.

If your goal is to get conversions, having more sets of eyes on your content, services, and products can help. Does more website traffic mean a lot of conversions from the start of SEO? Not necessarily, but through a dedicated and ongoing SEO effort, it becomes easier to draw relevant customers to your website, which eventually will increase conversions.

Competitors
Think of SEO like a race with your competitors. If you’re not doing it, it’s like giving them a one-minute head start. Once you start, they have already established a lead. They have already put in the work to get those high page rankings.

That just means you should put in some extra effort and study what your competitors are doing on their website. After some time, you will start seeing keywords you were targeting on the first few pages of the search engine results page. Once you start ranking high, it is important you keep investing your time in SEO because more and more businesses are going to invest in SEO.

Just remember, there are billions of searches a day. Do you want your customers to find you or your competitors?

If you are interested in finding your competitors keyword rankings, you can use tools like SpyFu, Open Site Explorer, or SEMrush.

There is no arguing that SEO can be beneficial to your business. With better rankings, you will increase visibility, website traffic and pull ahead of your competitors in the SEO race.
