#MediaCLE: Step-by-step Social Media that Works

Screen Shot 2015-04-15 at 1.55.22 PMCathy McPhillips and Monina Wagner with Content Marketing Institute shared social media tips today at #MediaCLE. Social media marketing has been an amazing progression starting off with unpaid interns managing the platforms to now having talented community managers with actual strategies!

One of the best tips from Cathy and Monina? Create a channel plan!

Don’t try to be everywhere. Pick the social media platforms that your audience is already on and are relevant to your brand. Once you have decided which platforms to be on decide how to post. People use platforms differently so you shouldn’t be posting the same way on every platform!

Take the time to strategize and understand why your customers want to follow you on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. Once you understand why your customers are following you on the different platforms you can understand what type of content they want to see and where. Examples? People like to get news on Twitter, use this platform for announcements and promo. Instagram is more personal so don’t use it to post promotional content. CMI uses theirs to share photos of them at conferences and on the road to get to know their team better.

A few last tips?
*Listen to your audience
*Use data
*Have great photos & headlines
*Engage
