Design World iPad + App
A good day for b2b media apps as our v 1.0 iPad / iPhone is up in the Apple store today. No cheap digital flips. No PDF converted nonsense. No clunky readers. A pure native app featuring real-time news, editorial, updates, video, forum posts and more. Share across the media universe, email articles and save specific ones for a read later on.
In portrait mode use the entire screen as a grid view to quickly push through all articles or use the category tab to narrow down the subject matter. Rotate to landscape mode and the grid changes to accomodate a sliding menu bar to quickly jump to any number of categories or video offerings. No need to wait for any new additions as news, article and video are updated as they happen across the entire Design World Network.
The iPad is designed to run on the iPad and iPhone, so your iPhone experience is a more simplified interface with all the same content, while the iPad version takes advantage of everything an advanced tablet offers.
We’re looking for feedback, so please post here or of course give us a rating and post your reviews on the App store. Enjoy!
I wanted to share some honest user feedback:
“Overall, I like the layout and navigation. Somewhat spartan in design, but I like that. However, the nav is somewhat slow to respond. First time load takes a very long time until all the content comes down. Would suggest putting up a banner, or otherwise notifying the user that content is being pulled down. Also surprised there was no search allowing me to drill down to topics I care about. Or perhaps even a “customize” function allowing me to tailor the content to what’s important to me. This is a great app that is just showing its puberty a bit.”
As our version 1 we optimized the load time, but still ran into a 1st-load-delay: once pulled down the nav should be crisp in response, but we recognize this and are working on v1.1 with better optimization.
As for search, I omitted the function as items are broken out by category and date, but we’ll be looking at add in future releases. One feature it does have is read later, so you can tag articles and read them at a later time, compile bookmarks, etc.
Keep the feedback coming! We’ll only get better with your help.
