Content Marketing World 2012
Content Marketing World was my first conference I ever attended. For my first conference I’d say it was a success – I got a high-five from Rick Springfield, I sat front row while Jack Hanna brought his animals out and gave one of the best speeches I’ve ever heard and most importantly, attended great sessions that gave me many tools to ramp up our social media efforts here at WTWH Media.
One of my favorite sessions was with speaker Amy Porterfield about Facebook and LinkedIn strategies. I highly suggest you follow her on Twitter (@amyporterfield) and Facebook. I could go on for days with all the information I took away from her session, but I’ll leave you with my main takeaways.
-Every post should educate, entertain or empower
-Don’t post anything on Facebook without an image
-Turn your blog post, webinar registration, podcast, white papers, etc. into a picture-Write words on paper and Instagram it
-Use promoted posts on Facebook for webinars
-Post to LinkedIn 3-4 times a week with the goal of showing up in LinkedIn Today
I also took away some great information for our editors to apply to their blogs and social media efforts:
-Write more how-to’s
-Review a book, product or service
-Write case studies
-Ask for the audiences thoughts
-Take a stand (We have a great editor here for our Solar Power World magazine that more often than not,
stirs up some controversy with his blog posts because he chooses to take a stand. It’s one of those
“love him or hate him – you HAVE to read what he’s writing about” things. But the lovers AND the haters
are the reason his blogs and articles do so well.)
-Develop a 1-2 minute video introducing your blog post, podcast or upcoming webinar
I’m looking forward to my next conference, Social Media Marketing World, put on by Social Media Examiner in San Diego in April 2013.
